It is a subspecialty of paediatrics that consists of medical care of newborn, especially ill or premature infants. Approximately 9% of all newborn babies require special or extraordinary medical care, termed as Neonatal Intensive Care. Nankem offers a Level II NICU.

It includes facilities such as –

  • Incubator – Offers the infant a thermo-neutral environment, as well as nutritional support to satisfy its metabolic needs.
  • Neonatal ventilator – life-saving device in premature babies to help support their breathing.
  • Open Care System / Baby Warmers
  • Vital Signs Monitors
  • Intravenous Pumps

The hospital has also installed a transport – incubator attached to the ambulance, which plays a vital role in transporting neo-natal infants from remote areas to the NICU safely. It enables the infant to be placed in an optimal thermal environment, while en route.
